- Locate both batteries and make sure they are free of corrosion.
- Find the positive and negative terminals on both batteries. The positive terminal is red or will have a red plastic hood cover and sometimes marked with a plus + sign.
- Connect the red clamp of the jumper cables to the positive post of the dead battery, then connect the positive clamp to the battery of the running vehicle.
- Connect the negative clamp of the jumper cable to the negative battery post, then do the same to the running vehicle.
- Start the good car’s engine, allowing it to run for a few minutes.
- Then start the vehicle with the dead battery.
- Once the vehicle starts, remove the negative cables from both vehicles.
- Lastly, remove the positive cables from both vehicles.
After you jump start the car, allow it to run for about 30 minutes before shutting it off.
